Picture this: Wheel of Fortune®, the Mr. Food Test Kitchen and your original recipes! Well, those were the ingredients for our Wheel of Fortune Cookbook Recipe Contest, and boy did you guys really deliver! We received over 1,700 entries from folks all over the country with recipes spanning everything from breakfasts to desserts! With so many great recipes to go through, we knew we had to get started right away…
As we dug into the entries, we were really impressed with the variety of submissions – everything from old fashioned favorites to new and creative combinations. Many of you included a little background information on how your recipes came to be; and some of you shared personal stories that touched our hearts and brought a smile to our faces.
Yep, treats are a must at every meeting in the Mr. Food Test Kitchen!
One woman submitted an Italian cookie recipe, and told of how her grandma made hundreds of the cookies for each of her seven daughters’ weddings. She even sent a photo and, let me tell you, those cookies really stacked up tall!
Some of your stories made us laugh – like the one about the wife whose husband hated zucchini, but loved chocolate, so she created zucchini brownies and now he asks for them all the time; or the cowboy who combined his love for Chinese food with a stuffed cabbage roll disaster to create a one-of-a-kind recipe.
Another one of my favorite stories was from a 101 year old woman who has never missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune – talk about a devoted Wheel fan!
As you can see, the contest was a huge success! We want to thank everyone who took the time and made the effort to share their family favorites and creative inspirations. You’re all winners in our opinion, but when it’s all said and done, only the 12 best recipes will be included in the Mr. Food Test Kitchen Wheel of Fortune Collectible Cookbook and the winners will receive a signed copy of the book and a Wheel of Fortune prize package, plus bragging rights. The cookbook will be available this fall and is packed with exclusive behind-the-scenes stories, fun facts, and photos from the iconic game show.
As much fun as it was to read through all the entries, the real treat is testing and tasting the recipes! Stay tuned for our next post where we’ll share some behind-the-scenes highlights. You, or someone you know, might just make it into the book!
